ACT® (American College Test)

About Exam

The ACT is an entrance exam to make admissions decisions for undergraduates. It is an objective type, paper-based test formed and controlled by ACT, Inc.

Objective – to measure a high school student’s willingness for college. Overall, the better your scores are on the ACT, the more alternatives for universities you will get to choose from.

Test Structure

ACT is a 2 hour and 55 minutes long test and you can add 40 more minutes to it if you are opting for an ACT with Writing as well.

It has 4 compulsory and 1 optional section.

The 4 compulsory sections are:

    • English
    • Maths
    • Reading
    • Science

The 1 Optional Section is : Writing

ACT Writing scores are reported separately from overall test scores. Specific University may require that you complete the ACT Writing. Therefore, you should research well about the university’s specifications before you chose to skip the Writing.

Score Pattern

Each section of the ACT is scored on a 1 to 36-point scale. ACT score is the average of your section scores. The highest being 36. Writing is scored separately.

Test Registration Process

Usually ACT happens 5 times in a year and you can register for it till five weeks prior to the test date. The registration process is online through the following website-

The exam fee is $150 ($166.50 if taking with Writing)

For identification purposes, upload a picture of yourself.

Once your registration is complete, be sure to print out your Admission Ticket, as you’ll need it on the day of your test.
